Grove Smith, Clubhouse Manager With over 25 years of experience in the restaurant business, Grove has been in charge of White Manor’s Clubhouse and all dining/catering functions since 2007. He holds a degree in Hotel/Restaurant Management, and attended The Restaurant School in Philadelphia where he graduated with a degree in Specialized Business.
Grove began his management career at Kinterra, the original restaurant in The Wayne Hotel. He also worked for The Radnor Hotel & The Wild Onion as Restaurant Manager, Hotel Banquet Director and Training Director. He worked at Passerelle and Bravo in Radnor, as well as Tango, in Bryn Mawr. In 1997 he was asked by the owners to return as the Food and Beverage Director at the Radnor Hotel. After serving as Food and Beverage Director there and at the Great Valley Sheraton, he became the General Manager of Primavera in Ardmore.
He began his club career in 2003 as Service Director for The Philadelphia Country Club. After one year as Service Director, he was promoted to Clubhouse Manager, which he held for the 3 years. Drew Smalbach, Executive Chef, known affectionately as Chef Drew, joined the Manor in 2006. He began his culinary passion apprenticing at the Columbia Club in Indianapolis. Then, served in Washington, D.C. at the University Club along with culinary stints at Brennan's in New Orleans, Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana, and more recently at Springfield Country Club in Massachusetts.
Chef Drew holds a Culinary Arts degree from Johnson & Wales in Providence, RI and continued his education at The Culinary Institute of America, Greystone Campus and The Greenbriar Resort and Spa. Drew and his wife, Catherine, are proud parents of two dogs and one cat. Chef Drew enjoys bass fishing, music and always food. Drew can be reached at DSmalbach@whitemanorcc.com
Cecil Hylton - Assistant Food & Beverage Manager brings a lot of energy day in and day out, striving to exceed member and guest expectations. Cecil's has worked at the University of Pennsylvania Faculty Club and Philadelphia Country Club, where he was promoted to Food & Beverage Captain, and subsequently promoted to Banquet Manager in 2005.
