Jonathan Clay, CCM
General Manager
Born and raised in the far northeast section of Philadelphia and a graduate of Archbishop Ryan HS, my hospitality career started as early as my high school days when I was a busboy who loved to do prep work for the chef. I attended Johnson and Wales University in Providence, RI where I graduated with a B.O.S in Hotel/Restaurant Management and a minor in Culinary Arts. Upon graduation I worked for ARA Services as a Sous Chef in the corporate headquarters here in Philadelphia, then moved “uptown” to the Ritz Carlton where I was also a Sous Chef. I began my club career in 1994 as an Executive Sous Chef at Orienta Beach & Yacht Club in Mamaroneck, NY and was promoted to Assistant General Manager after two seasons. I subsequently moved to Boston to work at Winchester Country Club as Clubhouse Manager until 2000, I then moved back to Philadelphia to become the Clubhouse Manager at Green Valley Country Club and also earn my CCM designation (certified club manager) from the Club Managers Association of America, an organization I am active in and believe strongly in. Most recently I was the General Manager at Hillendale Country Club in the suburbs of Baltimore and welcomed the opportunity to return home with my wife, Carolan, and our twins, Nathan and Hannah and daughter Madelyn. I’m a rabid hockey fan and struggle to maintain a 6 handicap. |

Grove
Smith, Clubhouse Manager
I have over 25 years of experience in the restaurant business, most
of which has been in the “Main Line’s “ most prominent restaurants.
I grew up in Wayne and graduated from Radnor High School. After 2
years of traveling abroad I returned to school and received my
degree in Hotel/Restaurant Management, and then went on to attend
The Restaurant School in Philadelphia where I graduated with a
degree in Specialized Business.
I began my management career at Kinterra, the original restaurant in
The Wayne Hotel, now Taquet. After Kinterra I moved on to work for
the S.W. Bajus Organization, owners of The Radnor Hotel & The Wild
Onion, formerly Horace P. Jerky’s. While working for the company I
served as a Restaurant Manager and went on to be the Hotel Banquet
Director and Director of Training for both sites.
I then moved on to work for The Plumb Tree Café Inc, which owns and
operates Passerelle and Bravo in Radnor, as well as Tango, in Bryn
Mawr. During my tenure at Passerelle the restaurant was rated in the
Conde Nast travel guide as the number three restaurant in the
Philadelphia area, and in the top 250 in the county.
In 1997 the S.W. Bajus Organization asked me to return as the Food
and Beverage Director at the Radnor Hotel. After serving as Food and
Beverage Director there and at the Great Valley Sheraton I became
the General Manager of the busy Primavera in Ardmore.
I began my club career in 2003 as the Service Director at The
Philadelphia Country Club. After one year as Service Director I was
promoted to the Clubhouse Manager position, which I held for the 3
years. I live in Ardmore with my wife Kristine and our son
Logan.

Janet Ruben - Sales and Catering Director
Born and raised in Havertown, I graduated Haverford H.S. and attended the University of Pittsburgh and Columbia University. Prior to joining WMCC in the fall of 2004, I worked with Restaurant Associates in New York City, and then spent time in the hospitality field here in the Delaware Valley. This included stints as Sales Manager at the Franklin Plaza in Center City and Director of Sales & Marketing at Spring Mill CC in Bucks County. Why do I love doing banquets sales? Because it gives me the opportunity to participate in, and contribute to, very happy milestone events in people's lives. I am honored by the trust that people place in my hands to make their wedding, bar mitzvah, holiday party and other events so memorable. When I'm not working, I dote on my twins, who continue to make me proud everyday. I also enjoy movies, great vacations and kibitzing with family and friends.
